About Civiora
Local Switzerland, made readable.
The essential data on Swiss municipalities exists — but it is scattered across dozens of portals, formats and reference years. Civiora brings it together, presents it and makes it comparable, without ever sacrificing traceability: every value carries its official source, its reference year and its status.
What Civiora is
- a digital reference work on Switzerland's 2’110 municipalities, in four languages;
- a readability layer on top of official open data (FSO, FTA, FOPH, ElCom, opentransportdata.swiss, swisstopo/ThemaKart);
- an independent project, with no ties to the Confederation, the cantons or the municipalities.
What Civiora is not
- an official site — administrative decisions are based on the authorities' publications, not on Civiora;
- an adviser — Civiora provides no tax advice, no insurance advice and no investment advice;
- a judge of quality of life — the Civiora index measures costs and transport provision, not the worth of a municipality or of its residents.
Roadmap
- Level 1 (current): an impeccable national core — taxation, premiums, electricity, population, housing, transport, territory.
- Level 2: progressive cantonal enrichment (schools, healthcare, local services), canton by canton, with coverage displayed.
- opendata.swiss showcase: Civiora will be submitted as an example of open data reuse after its public launch.
